Kids Camp offers young artists a fun place to explore, create and play while learning about famous artists, art history, and new techniques. Class sizes are designed to allow for more personalized instruction and group projects. Students will work with three different art educators during each week-long themed session learning three different lessons every day.


 

Sculpture: Ocean Creatures

June 8 - 12

Young artists will explore texture through sculpture. Using air-dry clay to sculpt ocean creatures like jellyfish or starfish, students will discover the shapes and forms they see as they sculpt. Inspired by the BMoA summer exhibition Second Nature.

Digital Collage

June 15 - 19

Inspired by the work of visiting artist Ann Diener, students will learn collage making, then execute their designs using iPads.

Printmaking Lab

June 22 - 26

Students will use block printing to tell a story, inspired by the printmaking of Marion Osborn Cunningham, on view in Seventy Years of Inspiration: The Story of the Bakersfield Museum of Art.

Jewelry Makers

July 13 - 17

It's Jewelry Week! Students will use copper wire to create rings, bracelets, and more, embellished with semi-precious stones and beads, all inspired by Copper Trees inside Ann Diener's Greenhouse

 
 

Impressionist Painters

July 20 - 24

Students will use watercolor and acrylic paint, with visible brushstrokes, to capture the fleeting effects of light and color, just like the Impressionist artists of the 1870s-1880s. This week's inspiration comes from the summer 2026 ArtWorks exhibition Becoming

 

Class space is limited. Registration closes at 2:00PM on the Thursday before each week or until filled.

Additional Class Information

Classrooms will rotate between three different instructors and students will take two 10-minute breaks each day and will have a 30-minute break for snacks. Snacks will not be provided, students are encouraged to bring their own. Students who arrive late to class will miss out on important steps and may be expected to catch up on their own. Out of consideration for our staff schedules, we ask that all students be picked up on time. BMoA reserves the right to charge a late fee of $1/minute after 10 minutes. Please refer to our class policies for more information regarding drop-off/pick-up, cancellations, and other program policies. Class space is limited.
