The Exhibit

Impressions of Place draws from the Bakersfield Museum of Art’s permanent collection to explore how artists have responded to, reflected on, and been shaped by Kern County. The exhibition highlights a range of perspectives—some rooted in lived experience, others drawn from memory, observation, or transformation—demonstrating the rich interplay between place and artistic practice.

From panoramic landscapes and city scenes to abstract interpretations of memory and environment, the works on view were either created by artists from Kern County or inspired by its people, geography, and culture. Collectively, they offer a layered visual narrative of the region: its natural beauty and industrial presence, its rural histories and urban shifts, its emotional terrain and generational change.

Featured artists include Marion Osborn Cunningham, David Koeth, Larry Jason, Art Sherwyn, Stephanie Stockton, Rotem Roshef, Prapat Sirinavarat, Roland Petersen, Tina Dille and others whose works span diverse mediums and decades. Impressions of Place honors both the creative legacy of Kern County and the Museum’s ongoing commitment to preserving and celebrating its cultural identity.
