About the Program
ArtWorks is a program for select Kern County high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for the visual arts. Consisting of eight Saturday in-person meetings, this semester-long experience focuses on developing and enhancing students’ artistic skills while participating in a range of visual arts enrichment activities. Students have the opportunity to work alongside Museum staff, engage in discussions with professional guest speakers and artists, culminating in an exhibition at BMoA that will also be available online.

Application acceptance begins by November for the class of 2026.
ArtWorks Class of 2025
Opening in Summer 2025, seventeen Kern County high school juniors and seniors who participated in Bakersfield Museum of Art’s 2025 ArtWorks program.
ArtWorks Class of 2024
The Colors Within: Selections from the BMoA ArtWorks Class of 2024 celebrates the work of seventeen Kern County high school juniors and seniors who participated in Bakersfield Museum of Art’s 2024 ArtWorks program. Throughout this semester-long experience, students worked with Museum staff, guest speakers, and artists to empower their passion for the visual arts.
ArtWorks Class of 2023
The fifteen members of the ArtWorks Class of 2023 produced the exhibition Nostalgia: Selections From the Students in the BMoA ArtWorks Program. Their class learned about careers in photography, sculpture, and completed a stunning mural in Downtown Bakersfield.
ArtWorks Class of 2022
Human Nature: Selections from BMoA’s Artworks Program premiered as part of our Summer Exhibitions on May 29, 2022. This exhibition celebrates the work of thirteen high school juniors and seniors who participated in our 2022 ArtWorks program.
ArtWorks Class of 2021
Thirteen gifted high school artists display original work that uncovers biases, stereotypes and expectations of identity in the exhibition Deconstructing the Lens: Selections from the Students in the BMoA ArtWorks Program.The 2021 ArtWorks program included both virtual and in-person sessions. Student artists discussed traditional and experimental media, art theory, public art, and portfolio critique with local artists including Art Sherwyn, Jennifer Williams Cordova, and Shaleah Moore, and CSUB art history professor Jesse Sugarman.
ArtWorks Class of 2020
The ArtWorks class of 2020 consisted of sixteen bright individuals from eight different schools in the Kern County area. This group is creative, full of life and very passionate about the arts. Take a moment and “Meet the Students” to learn more.
