Block Printing
A Workshop with Lia Mendez

Saturday, September 7, 2019
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of creating an original relief print. Local artist, Lia Mendez of Small Fox Press, will discuss and demonstrate fundamental block printing techniques, guiding participants through making a small two-color reduction print out of a 2x2” piece of rubber carving block to become familiar with the materials and the process. Participants will then have the opportunity to plan out and execute a larger (4x6”) two-color print.

Participants are encouraged to bring a selection of reference images as inspiration for their final 4x6” image.

About The Artist:

Lia Mendez is a self-taught artist and graphic designer who enjoys experimenting and working in a variety of creative media which she documents on her website, Small Fox Press. She has most recently developed methods to create digital illustrations with a hand-made touch by taking images that start out as drawings and block prints and then processing them digitally, leading to creations like her all-ages coloring book currently for sale at the BMoA Gift Shop.
