A workshop with Lia Mendez
Saturday, September 7, 2019
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of creating an original relief print. Local artist, Lia Mendez will discuss and demonstrate fundamental block printing techniques, guiding participants through making a small two-color reduction print out of a 2x2” piece of rubber carving block to become familiar with the materials and the process. Participants will then have the opportunity to plan out and execute a larger (4x6”) two-color print.
Participants are encouraged to bring a selection of reference images as inspiration for their final 4x6” image.
About The Artist:
Lia Mendez is a self-taught artist and graphic designer who enjoys experimenting and working in a variety of creative media. She has most recently developed methods to create digital illustrations with a hand-made touch by taking images that start out as drawings and block prints and then processing them digitally, leading to creations like her all-ages coloring book currently for sale at the BMoA Gift Shop.
