Join the Bakersfield Museum of Art for an Estate Tour of The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, CA. Guests will enjoy an easy outdoor, one-hour walking tour that covers the central area of the estate including the world-renowned galleries and gardens. Visitors learn how Henry and Arabella Huntington turned their San Marino Ranch into a world-famous cultural landmark. Upon conclusion of the guided tour, guests will have time for lunch and self-exploration of the gardens, galleries, and special exhibitions.
The Huntington’s library is one of the world’s great independent research libraries, with some 11 million items spanning the 11th to 21st centuries. These extraordinary and diverse materials are centered on 14 intersecting collection strengths: American history; architecture, landscape design, and planning; British history; California; early printed books; Hispanic history and culture; history of science, technology, and medicine; literature in English; maps and atlases; medieval manuscripts; the Pacific Rim; photography; prints, posters, and ephemera; and Western American history.
The Huntington’s art collections feature European and American art spanning more than 500 years. Extraordinary examples of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, and prints and drawings
are displayed in the Huntington Art Gallery, the original home of Henry and Arabella Huntington, and in the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art. Both buildings also showcase smaller, temporary exhibitions that focus on masterworks in the collection, or that place The Huntington’s historic works in conversation with contemporary artistic practice.
Encompassing approximately 120 acres of the 207-acre grounds, the botanical gardens contain more than a dozen spectacular themed gardens.
