Join BMoA on the Friday after Thanksgiving for a special tour of Astrid Preston’s exhibition Poetics of Nature with curator Rachel Magnus.

Astrid Preston has explored the real and invented landscape for over 30 years, though the work in Poetics of Nature cannot be categorized by a singular style. The paintings seem to zoom in and zoom out in detail and representation. The earliest work is grounded with references to realism, often times quite reminiscent of early Renaissance landscape painting. The most recent work takes on a contemporary element with the insertion of pixilation. The various ways of working and interpreting the landscape are ultimately part of a larger picture. When seen in its entirety, the work of Preston’s becomes a vision of landscape that heightens our senses to its beauty in all its complexities.
